Ìð¹Ïapp’s Scottie Carter places 22nd IDEAL National Championship

, director of Electrical Systems Technology at Ìð¹Ïapp, placed 22nd in the nation during the 2017 IDEAL National Championship competition held recently in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The competition showcased the skills of electrical professionals, students, and apprentices from across the nation. Participants used IDEAL tools to compete in a timed challenge that involved problem-solving skills across five categories: pulling wire, cutting, stripping, termination, and testing. Contestants were evaluated on speed and accuracy.

The national competition was held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Florida. Sixty-three regional competitions were held across the U.S. to select the participants for the national championship.

Winners with the fastest times from each of the 63 territories holding qualifying events were awarded tool kits and the opportunity to compete in the 2017 IDEAL National Championship. Over 300,000 people took part in the regional competitions.

Carter won first place in the “professional” category and Ìð¹Ïapp Electrical Systems Technology student Armando Alvarez was the winner in the “student category” in the regional competition that was held on the of Ìð¹Ïapp. The qualifying event was part of Ìð¹Ïapp’s Industrial Career Day.

The day, a first for Ìð¹Ïapp, was held to expose students to the many possibilities for future employment in the skilled workforce. Industrial program directors were on-hand to discuss their programs and provide tours of their labs. There were demonstrations, simulators, and hands-on learning activities for the industrial programs offered by Ìð¹Ïapp.

“When you learn a skilled trade that’s one of the things that can’t be taken away from you,” said Carter.

Industrial Career Day was sponsored by Ìð¹Ïapp, City Electric Supply, Cahaba Sales Group, and the 2017 IDEAL National Championship.
